Tips and Troubleshooting
I Want To Install on Several Domains
The licence for SmartDD allows you to install it on as many domains as you personally own.
As you’ve probably realised when you’ve updated the PayPal IPN setting, you can only set a single static IPN. So you might be thinking there’s no point in installing SmartDD on more than one domain.
And if you’re selling on eBay, then one domain is probably all you need. But if you also have a few websites where you sell goods by PayPal, you may be perplexed as to how you can get SmartDD to work in several places.
Well don’t worry, because you can install SmartDD on a domain, and then use the built in PayPal button generator to generate the button code, decription and price widgets. When your customer pays for an item after clicking the button, they’re returned back to your website.
The email is sent from that same domain, and when your customer clicks the link, they’re taken back to that domain to download their purchase.
It works because SmartDD uses a dynamic IPN string which it sends to PayPal, and which overrides the static one. This is the same principle at work if you have other web applications running on other sites which use PayPal to accept payment.
The Licence Won’t Work
The licence generator we use is a 3rd party bit of software called ionCube Encoder. It can cause problems sometimes when trying to recognise the domain.
Normally, you would generate a licence in the format of www.domain.com, but sometimes, depending on the configuration of your web server, it may require a licence to be generated as domain.com instead.
We’ve also found that if you use cPanel’s "Add-on Domains" feature to add a domain to your hosting account, then the licencing software has problems with that too. It seems to find the main domain rather than the add-on domain you’d expect it to find. Then because it doesn’t match the domain licence, it fails.
You can fix this by generating a licence in the format of www.add-on-domain.maindomain.com OR add-on-domain.maindomain.com (without the www in front).
It should then recognise the licence as being valid.
UPDATE: A customer of SmartDD has pointed out to us that you can generate a licence using the IP address of the server your domain instead. We’ve found that so far this has worked in 5 out of 6 cases, so it looks like a good tip to include here.
To get your IP address, open up a command prompt (also known as an MSDOS box), and type:-
ping www.yourdomainhere.com
and you’ll then see the IP address appear as the domain is pinged. It will appear as a "dotted quad" - e.g. 128.45.65.89. Enter that IP address into the licence generator instead and download the new licence.
Emails Aren’t Being Sent Out
Check the transaction screen, and check the email log. Carefully. If SmartDD says the emails have been queued, then there were no errors and SmartDD has done its part.
You can check that SmartDD is working by resending the emails, but sending them to yourself instead. If you get them within a minute or two (often immediately), you can be certain that it’s working okay.
The only reasons your customers aren’t getting their emails are they’re either using spam filters or there is a problem with your host. Try using webmail and sending yourself a test email to your ISP email address rather than your domain email address.
Again, if you receive it okay, then you know SmartDD is working as it uses the same method to send as webmail.
Customers Aren’t Getting Emails
If you know SmartDD is sending the emails out okay (see above), then it’s likely that it’s your customers spam filters putting your emails in their bulk or spam folders. All you can do is educate them, and ask them to whitelist your email address. Once enough users of a particular ISP whitelist you, then you should find that all your emails get through okay without being filtered.
I know it’s a pain, but we all have the spammers to thank for this problem.
Getting "Order Failed" Emails
The primary reason you’re getting order failures is because SmartDD can’t find the item you’re selling on eBay (usually) in its database. Check that the title on eBay EXACTLY matches the title in your Items panel.
If there’s even a single space or character different, then the order will fail.
You’ll also get order failures if your inventory product doesn’t point to the download file correctly - look out for typos as being the cause of this problem! Or maybe you’ve forgotten to upload the file.
We’ve also found a case where eBay is mangling the pound symbol (£) and sending it across as £50 for instance instead of £50. After going through PayPal as well, it arrives as just a single question mark (?). There’s not a lot we can do about this unless eBay decides to sort it out at their end (they’re using ASCII - so no £ symbol) which we think may be unlikely.
The work round for this is either don’t use the £ symbol at all, good practice would be not to use any special symbols such as $*?/@"+£ and just stick to letters and numbers instead, as it’s key words that people look for when doing a search. OR, you can create a copy of the item you’re selling in your database but for instance use ?50 instead of £50.
But even then you may get intermittent results depending on what eBay and PayPal do. It’s best just to avoid special symbols altogether.
The only other reason you may be getting order failures is because you’re also selling physical goods on eBay, but again you probably wouldn’t want to have physical goods loaded…
Selling Physical Goods
You CAN use SmartDD when selling physical goods. Or at least, what you can do is use SmartDD to coax your customers onto your mailing list.
After your customer has purchased the physical item, say a CD for instance, and if that item is loaded into SmartDD, you can send a customised email out to your customer. In that email you can thank them for their purchase and offer to give them a digital download of some other useful related digital item in return for signing up to your 3rd party auto-responder / mailing list.
The follow-up email can be set to remind them to do the same thing 24 hours later.
Then you would set up your 3rd party auto-responder, e.g. Aweber, to send out a link to the download in the first email it sends after they’ve double-opted in to your list. It shouldn’t bother you too much that it won’t be protected by SmartDD. After all, you now have them on your mailing list and you can sell to them again in the future.
You should always try to get every customer onto your mailing list. If they’ve bought from you once and were happy with their purchase, then why not sell them something similar at a later date?
It takes a little bit of effort to set up initially, but once you’ve done it, it can bring you great rewards as you now have a captive audience and can sell them goods from your website instead of through eBay.
Remember, it’s between 5-12 times harder to sell to a new customer as it is to an existing one.
DON’T LET YOUR CUSTOMERS BECOME EX-CUSTOMERS.
Building A Mailing List
I mentioned above about how important it is to get people to sign up to your mailing list.
Well, some people sell ebooks on eBay for one reason only. And that’s to build their mailing list. That’s why you see so many ebooks being sold for $1.99, it just about covers the auction expenses.
In fact, if you can get things set up correctly, using a combination of SmartDD, eBay’s Turbo Lister and Selling Manager Pro, you can build your mailing list on autopilot. The trick is to break even while building your list. i.e. you want to bring in at least enough money to pay for your listing fees.
Some people aren’t even bothered about that, because they know that once they have someone on their list, they can sell to them over and over again.
Let’s put it another way. For every person you have on your list, you can expect to earn between $0.50c and $1.00 per month per person. That’s if you send them details of carefully selected offers that match what they were interested in when they bought your ebook.
If you "spray and pray" then you’ll get much lower returns than that.
So think very carefully about what you’ve just read.
If you know your metrics, and you know how much you can expect to earn per person on your list, i.e. you know their lifetime customer value, then you can afford to pay half that and still make a profit.
For example, if you have a good set of offers you can make directly to each person. And you know that you’ll get a total return of an average $25.00 per head, and it only costs you $5.00 or less to get them on your mailing list, then you’re $20.00 in profit per person on your list.
There are an increasing number of marketers that have become clued up to this, and are now working eBay to build their list. Don’t worry about it becoming too overcrowded, eBay is HUGE, but if you aren’t using eBay to build your list today, then you should seriously stop to think about it.
If you want to learn more about this, then I strongly suggest you try out EPA and learn all about how it’s done by a professional marketer.
Or you could just ask me and I’ll see if I can put something together.
Pending Payments
SmartDD is unique in that it will handle PayPal echecks. These show as a "Pending" payment, and your customer will receive an email telling them they’ll get a further email when the echeck clears. You will also get an email to tell you the purchase is pending.
A few days later when the echeck clears, PayPal sends a further mesage to SmartDD to let it know that the transaction has now completed. SmartDD will then send out an email to your customer with the download link, and you’ll also get one to let you know the payment has cleared.
If the payment doesn’t clear, then both you and your customer will get an order failed email.
Don’t Use Your Personal Email Address To Run Your Business With
As you have a domain to install SmartDD on, then use it properly!
It looks very unprofessional to your customers to receive email from a personal or free email address. It’s very easy to set yourself up an email address that runs off your domain, such as sales@domain.com.
Use IMAP Instead Of POP3
Once you’ve created an email account on your web server, then I suggest you use IMAP to fetch your email - most hosts support IMAP as well as POP3. If you have a hosting account that uses cPanel (such as my favourite - Hostgator), then you can definitely use IMAP.
Why? Well, IMAP leaves your emails on the server.
Imagine what would happen if your hard drive crashed, and you’re using POP3. All your emails are gone forever, and you have absolutely no record of any of your transactions or conversations with customers.
It’s happened to a LOT of people…
With IMAP, your PC will only read and copy the emails from the server. They don’t get removed after download. So if your PCs hard drive ever did go bye-byes, it doesn’t matter, you still have all your emails safe on the web server!
Other nice things about IMAP are you can share an email account across several PCs. For instance, my wife and I both have local copies of emails on our PCs. And my developer partner Paul lives over a hundred miles away but sees all the same emails that I do.
If either of us respond to an email, IMAP saves the response in the Sent Items folder on the web server, so we can both see it. If one of us saves a draft email, the other can see it in the drafts folder. If one of us flags an email, the other one gets to see it too.
It’s really cool, and keeps us both synchronised!
And if you use Windows and Outlook Express (OE), there’s another bonus too. If you use IMAP, then OE creates completely separate accounts and folders. So you get an Inbox, Sent Items and Drafts folders for every account, keeping everything separate instead of all jumbled up in the one Inbox etc.
Believe it or not, here’s a tiny picture of some of my different email accounts. I have over 30 set up in OE, all with their own folders. With IMAP they’re very easy to manage.

You can see the usual local folders, plus the IMAP accounts and folders underneath. As an additional benefit, it makes it easy to copy and move emails between accounts too! My second PC also has all the same email accounts too as a local backup!
And Finally…
That’s it!
If you’ve followed these instructions, then SmartDD is now all set up to start delivering your digital goods.

Dear Frank,
Thank you for the quick reply. Can’t even begin to imagine how quick it would have been if I was a paying customer ;o) Anyway, it’s sorted now. I had to disable safe mode and install everything from scratch again.
I think you have done a great job with the design and all, it looks very professional. Have not used it yet, though, which leads me to my question: Do I need to set up cronjobs in order for the program to automatically respond to paypal payments and send out digital products? When would I need this feature? Thank you very much in advance.
I just might become a paying customer soon ;o)
all the best, Regards Joe
Hi Joe,
Hey, good work on sorting it out for yourself - my kind of customer!
The cron job does two things. It checks for the latest version once every 24 hours, and it sends out the 24 hours later follow up email to your customers. That’s it!
We’ll be looking at a way we can implement a pseudo cron for those people who can’t run cron jobs with their web host. It’s nothing new, it just uses an embedded php call on a web page you own that gets some traffic. That php call is the cron job.
Every time somebody views the page, it calls the SmartDD cron, which takes a fraction of a second to run. As long as it’s called every 24 hours or so, then the cron will work, although you may get some emails being sent out nearly 48 hours later depending on how often the page is viewed.
Maybe a good place to put it would be in the admin panel. As long as you check it once or twice a day, the cron will run.
Alternatively, you could just bookmark it and load it up every so often. For instance, if you run this:-
http://www.yourdomain.com/smartdd/admin/cron.php
replacing yourdomain with well, YOUR domain, you’ll see the cron output.
Cheers,
Frank.
Hi Frank,
Is there a way to incorporate OTOs into SmartDD?
That is, can we set up OTOs and still use SmartDD as designed?
Thanks.
Clifton
Hi Clifton,
The new version of SmartDD will be released next week on the 19th December.
We’ll be putting free sign up and autoresponder integration plus OTO functionality into a mini-updater we’ll be releasing at the end of January.
Cheers,
Frank.
Hi Frank,
It’s been some time since I’ve logged into SMARTDD and I’ve forgot my username name, how can I fix this?
Hi Hugh,
It’s automated. Go to the login screen and have a read.
Cheers,
Frank.
finally found the dates of some posts ref: clickbank… something to add — imap vs. pop3 (have always used pop3), I like the separation (used to do this manually with folders and rules), however, it should be noted, at least in OE that the limit is 32 pop3 accounts… after that it doesn’t check all accounts for mail AND each account CAN be configured to leave mail on the server even if pop3 is used (part of account setup for each account)
I just downloaded and got version 0.98? Is this the current version release the 19th of December? Was there a delay in the 2.0 release?
Hi Kevin,
There’s always a trade off isn’t there? With OE, only POP3 does filtering and rules, while IMAP is much better as I’ve yet to find a limit on how many accounts you can use. I have 40-odd and counting.
Don’t forget that because IMAP talks to the server, if you create a folder on one PC, it automatically gets created on any other PCs that use the same IMAP account. If you move email to another folder, it gets moved on all PCs.
And if you flag an item, again it gets flagged on all PCs. You can’t do that with POP3, and it’s ideal for collaborating with business partners if you all share the same account.
V2.0 will be released in the next 10 days or so.

i have recently set up smartdd to use on ebay. when i did a test auction, the emails worked fine and everything was ok untill i came to downloading the file where the message came up as: download error We could not direct you to your download page. Please contact the site administrator. i can’t understand why this would happen as i followed all the instructions. i stored the files as:
home/userid/files/product.zip
i tried resending the email but still it didnt get the downloads. please help.
Hi Abdul,
Without more details, my guess is you’ve used the Display name security feature without understanding how it works. Maybe?
Delete the display name and the download should work.
If that’s not it, then send me an email with details of your SmartDD login etc, and I’ll take a look.
-Frank.
sorry but it still doesn’t work.
my temporary login details are:
username *****
password *****
i got the got the download file page. but when i tried to save the file there was nothing in the file. is it because of the way i placed it on my cpanel.
i placed 5 zipped files in the product folder and assigned the folder as the one to be sent via smartdd. is this a problem?
Hi Abdul.
Aha! We’ve just come across this problem for the first time about a month ago.
If the file is a large one, and your host has a low limit set on the memory size allocated by an application on your server, then it can fail because SmartDD can’t allocate enough memory to buffer the file for download.
How big is the file? And can it be split up into smaller chunks?
-Frank.
they are already split int smaller chunks. there are five zipped files within the product file. the largest of the files is 25mb, total file size is approximately 90mb. that is because they are audio. i thought that smartdd was ok with that. by the way my host is hostgator. is there any problem with them?
Hi Abdul,
I have a sneaky feeling that Hostgator may have just recently implemented that memory limit.
Write to them and ask them what the memory limit is for applications. If it’s less than 25MB, then that’s the problem. But I think you’re saying it’s actually a 90MB file?
Your alternative is to either present an unsecured download page (URL), or use a URL to the zip file directly.
Also, I’m just about to release version 2 which allows you to link multiple smaller files to a single saleable item. When your customer is directed to the download page, all of the files are there available as individual links to download.
When?
In the next day or so.
-Frank.
i just spoke to hostgator and they said that there was not a memory limit. i cant seem to understand where the problem is coming from. please help.
will i get version 2 as an update or do we have to pay for it seperatly? if its an update then i will wait for that to come.
Hi Abdul,
I’ve spoken to my developer about this. It may be a 30 second timeout issue that many cPanel hosts have now. ie if the secured file doesn’t complete the download within 30 seconds then it fails.
A faster connection would help…
Alternatively, hang on for v2 of SmartDD which will allow you to break your larger 90MB file into smaller ones.
(I still think that there may be a memory limit in place on Hostgator servers now, although I can’t prove this.)
I just found a tiny little bug in it last night, and I’m waiting for Paul to get back to me on it. As soon as that’s fixed, I’ll put v2 up in the members area.
Everyone that has the paid for version like yourself will get the update for free.
We may charge a small amount for a mini-updater we’ll be releasing in about a months time. This will add in free sign up via a 3rd party autoresponder such as Aweber, and also one time offer functionality as well as a few other bits and pieces.

Hi Frank,
I downloaded the upgrade 0,98 to 2.00 and i tryed to upload on my web site http://www.hotbargaintips.com……to the end when i clcik Finish..i got :
****
/public_html/smartdd/smartdd/_structure/config/cUserConfig.php is not writable - can’t continue
****
What meens /what can I do now ???
Regards,
Chris
p.s. i didn’t delete any file..and if i saw the program uploded twice smartdd/smartdd..no ???
Licence
Just in case anyone is having a problem with their licence. her’s what I encountered and found a solution for. I was installing the original SmartDD and then the Upgrade to V2:
I changed the name of the licence at the time of the download (smartdd.NEW.lic) and forgot when I uploaded it to change it back to smartdd.lic).
I used my IP address and it worked perfectly.
When upgrading I downloaded the new licence at the same time as I was downloading another product from SmartDD. It didn’t work. I got an error message. So I downloaded it again with no other downloads working and uploaded that and it worked perfectly.
I find that the beauty of working with scripts is that the more you use them the more you feel comfortable about trying different ways to solve the problem before contacting ’support’.
Best Wishes
Joe
Hi Frank,
I just installed the new full version and from what I see we can set up a complete store using the catalog section and this is getting me excited. The problem is I can find no info on how to set up a store with Smartdd. Maybe the info is here and I just can’t find it.
Thanks,
Wendall
Hello Frank. Im completed the setup (Trial version) everything ok: Paypal, etc… This night i sold two items but the SmartDD just ignored it. It dont show any order on the admin panel, but I configured everything on Paypal notification. why its happen?
Chris Arhot:
Use your FTP client and change the CHMOD setting to 644 for the config file and you’ll find it then works okay. The upgrade installer does this automatically, but for some reason it’s not working with your host, and I doubt we’ll ever find out why.
-Frank Haywood
Wendall:
I’ll get to it in a few days. I wanted to make sure there were no larger problems being unearthed before explaining how the store works. When you see it, I think you’re going to be really pleased.
-Frank Haywood.
Felipe:
I’ve found that some hosts have been blocking PayPal IPN for some reason. Check with your host to see if they’ve been doing it, and ask them to allow PayPal IPN POST messages through the firewall.
In every case where what you’ve described has happened, that’s been the problem.
-Frank Haywood.
Hi Frank,
How do you tell which version you have installed? I want to upgrade the version to 2 but am unsure which version I have and it works perfectly so I don’t want to mess it up.
Hi Frank,
I installed SmartDD some weeks ago but haven’t used it in earnest as yet ( due to other projects I am working on).
I checked my emails recently and saw that SmartDD had been sending me one every 15 minutes (about how many email follow ups) via the cron job.
Can I change the frequency of these emails to myself without affecting how SmartDD works in regards to sending customer emails?
Terence:
This is a cron feature and can’t be changed from within SmartDD.
Just go to the cron jobs screen and delete the contents of the email field box.
No more emails.
-Frank Haywood
Hi Victoria,
How’re you doing? I’m sorry, but your post got marked as spam for some reason, and I only just saved it from being deleted.
It’s likely you have v0.98, but you can check by looking near the bottom of the screen on the home page - it should tell you there.
-Frank Haywood
Hi Frank
The videos looked so good I bought v2 before I even tried SmartDD Lite. Super easy install! I really appreciate it.
I’m just looking through the templates and notice there is a catalog template. Between the catalog and item templates it looks like a catalog and shopping cart to me. I was wondering how I can use them. If they are not able to be used that way and are used for something else can you explain?
Thanks,
Donna
Hi Donna,
Thanks for that.
You’re right, we’ve built a cart into v2, but at this point I haven’t officially announced it or explained how it can be used.
That’s coming very shortly, and I’ll update all the docs and videos at that time.
I’m very confident that when I *do* announce and explain it, you’ll say it’s the simplest shopping cart to implement ever. You’ll find you can take almost any web page or template and turn it into a fully database driven web store.
Watch this space.
-Frank Haywood.
Hi, Frank.
Having a bit of trouble after apparantly sucessfully installing and trying to test SmartDD 2.0;
I’ve created a test item on Ebay, and filled in what appears to be the correct details on the Items page, but nothing is appearing on my Items List.
I don’t have any available categories on my Categories list- might this make a difference?
I’ve tried to re-enter the same item details thinking that SmartDD wasn’t recognizing the entries or perhaps there was a connection error, but SmartDD tells me the item is already listed- but it ain’t showing up.
I’m doing something wrong, I think.
Regards, Steve P.
Hi Steve,
I’m sorry about the delay in replying, I’ve not been well this last week or so.
There’s a hot fix available for this problem which you can pick up here:-
http://www.smartdd.com/v2_hotfix/items_not_displaying.zip
If you have any further support questions, if you raise them at:-
http://www.vendiva.com/support/
they’ll get answered by either myself or Donna.

HOW USE PAYPAL SANDBOX to test SmartDD
——————————————————–
I’m writing this howto in the hopes that it will help out some people. I spent 2 days on trying to work out how i could test Smartdd in test mode. Believe me, i tore my hair out but i finally figured it out.
I know Frank recommended that you use a Personal Account + a business account to test but some people are not so lucky as to have 2 bank accounts. Years ago i had 5 account but these days i only maintain 1 bank account so doing what he suggested didnt work for me. Paypal requires that you have two separate bank accounts.
Step 1: Go to https://developer.paypal.com/ and create a Sandbox account.
Step 2: Login to your sandbox account and click on TEST ACCOUNTS
Step 3: Create two accounts. First, you need to create an account as the BUYER. ENSURE that the buyer account has money in the bank account as well as a create card, eg
Business Name: None
Credit Card: Visa 4455964462813154
Exp Date: 4/2018
Bank Account: Checking (Confirmed)
Routing Number: 325272157
Bank Account Number: 471664071199554
Balance: 995.00 USD
Email: Confirmed
Notes:
Date Reset: Apr. 11, 2008 19:20:19 PDT
Now record the email address and the password. This will be generated for you once you create the BUYER account. Make sure you record the password.
This is the account YOU WILL USE DURING CHECKOUT via SmartDD when your buying a test product. Once again it will be generated by Paypal and will look something like this;
admin_1207966782_per@mydomain.com
Step 4: Create the SELLER account. This account will be classified as the Business Account. Make sure that its ENABLED. You will see a link that says ENABLE ACCOUNT. Once you have create the SELLER account NOTE the email address. Once again it will be generated by Paypal and will look something like this;
subscr_1207981006_biz@mydomain.com
Now here is the trick. Log into SmartDD and copy and paste the SELLER email address, subscr_1207981006_biz@mydomain.com into the EMAIL ADDRESS filed under Paypal Settings and save it.
Generate your Paypal TEST button and paste it into your form.
IMPORTANT::::: DO NOT LOG OUT OF YOUR SANDBOX account otherwise you will have to log back into it during checkout. Just open a new window leaving your SANDBOX account active.
Run though your test. …redirecting to Paypal. Enter the email address of the BUYER, in my case its admin_1207966782_per@mydomain.com and my password. Go though the purchase and you should be returned to Smartdd
SUCCESS!!!
NOTE: You do not need to give the SELLER money or a credit card but its a good idea to do so when you execute step 4 above just incase.
I hope this helps someone. I lost alot of hair trying to figure this out.
- Michael

Hi Michael,
Strangely, this is something I’ve never really understood why people have had a problem with, but as a couple of people just recently have asked about it, I did a little research myself.
The real trick is to create your real PayPal email account name in the sandbox too, and then use the built in sandbox email tool to confirm the new address. It take about 60 seconds.
Then when you put SmartDD into test mode and try it out, your real email account (sandbox version only) is sent the payment, and everything works as you would expect it to.
The reason the messages always show as pending is because your real PayPal email account isn’t in the sandbox. So the payment is shown as waiting to be claimed.
This is exactly what happens in the real live version of PayPal, but as the email account normally exists in PayPal, you don’t get a pending.
I hope that makes sense.
-Frank Haywood.
The real trick is to create your real PayPal email account name in the sandbox too, and then use the built in sandbox email tool to confirm the new address. It take about 60 seconds.
>> This was somthing i tried too. I looked into the SELLER account and create my real email address for my real business account but Paypal refused to send me a verification email no matter how many times i tried it. I tried to get my email address confirmed about 8 times, finally i gave up. So i deleted it and simply used the PRIMARY email address for the SELLERS email.
I could not get my real email address verified. I watched my logs in real time. They never even tried to send it. Dont know why. My understanding was that the Paypal sandbox doesnt send mail. It clearly states that so in order to confirm my email address the sandbox testing site would have to send me a verification email.
I have a question for you Frank.
I’v created a separate download page for my product and it set to my download page in the item.
I tested Smartdd in a live situation via a Friends Paypal account, that was before i got the Sanbox working. After i made the payment and clicked on RETURN TO MERCHANT it returned me to the thankyou page.
This was not where i was hoping to be returned. I was sure hoping to be returned to the download page immediately after making payment but that did not happen.
…then
After i worked out the Sandbox procedure i tried it in test mode. When i made payment the clicked on RETURN TO MERCHANT this time i was returned to my download page. WHY?
This doesnt make any sense and its inconsistent with what i thought should be happening.
1) In live mode i was returned to the thankyou page
2) In test mode i was returned to the download page (which is what i want rather)
Can you tell me;
1) How can i ensure that after the user clicks on RETURN TO MERCHANT in LIVE mode that im always directed to the download pages I’v created instead of the thankyou page which simply says, thanks for your payment now check your email address?
I do want the buyers to be able to download immediately and not have to rely on getting mail just to get their products.
Thanks
I have an item number for all products. The problem is, its not being passed back from Paypal.

Michael,
That’s right, but you have to confirm it from within the sandbox itself as the sandbox doesn’t send out emails into the real world.
Login to PayPal Developer Central, and then click the radio button next to your business account that you’ve preconfigured, and then click the “Enter Sandbox Test Site” button at the bottom of the screen.
A new window will open, and you can then log in to your PayPal sandbox business account using the pre-configured details you’ve already set up.
Next go to Profile and choose “Add or Edit Email” from the drop down. There you can add a new email account (your real world one).
You then have to confirm it. Leave that window open and go back to your original window that’s still logged into Developer Central and then go to “Test Emails” using the link on the left.
There you’ll see the email that you need to confirm. Open it up and click the link. Hey presto! Your email address is confirmed.
That’s it.
See the sandbox doesn’t send out any emails, it’s all done internally, so you have to go to Developer Central to confirm it. Depending on your connection, it will take you about 60 seconds to do everything I’ve just described.

Michael,
PayPal IPN is very strange thing.
It works in the background, and the IPN data doesn’t get sent to the site at the same time as your customers return.
What happens is PayPal sends the IPN data to the script, the script then sends the same data back to PayPal to confirm it’s been received correctly and then PayPal sends a confirm message and the download page becomes active.
SmartDD is designed to show a thank you page if the IPN sequence hasn’t completed, and go direct to the download page if it has.
If you wait 30 seconds or so in live mode when you do your test, you’ll find you go to the download page rather than the thank you page. If it doesn’t, just press the back button on your browser, wait another 30 seconds and then press the “Return to merchant” button again.
Almost certainly the second time you’ll get the download page.
This is all part of the security of SmartDD. Otherwise people would get to the download page without paying the full amount.

Michael, that’s not an item number, that’s the pipe character. Don’t use it!

Hi Frank,
Smartdd seems to fit my business requirements perfectly. I want to do a test run (I am using a digital delivery “monthly paid” service) . It’s a Rip off.
My programmer installed the installed the free version, only problem is that
our host( Bravenet) does not have c-Panel to enable him to install the cron job
part of the program. I have 3 Websites going with them and find their service great, so we can’t move the operations. I appreciate the fact that the cron.php ’s encrypted because it’s a free version.
I went trough this section and noticed that you mentioned the following, to Joe, “We’ll be looking at a way we can implement a pseudo cron for those people who can’t run cron jobs with their web host.” Is it available?
I know it ’s only the e-mail forwarding section, but it’s a great and essential facility.
How can you assist me. I really want to test it first , say about 30 days.
I have tested another digital down load manager, but it’s no good for my business. The security levels are poor. There are even free ones around, also no good and trash.
Today’s Motto - Enjoy today, it’s the first of the rest of your life.
Kind regards,
