What Would You Like Us To Do Next?

I don't know if you knew this, but my developer is also my business partner.  We've found that it's a good partnership as he can concentrate on the code while I do everything else.

Paul is one of the best coders I've ever met, and we often chat about what we're going to do with SmartDD (and other software he's working on), and of course we have some of our own plans for additional features in SmartDD, but what we quickly realised is, that what you really want are features that you come up with yourself.

So, please tell us.

We've already had a couple of suggestions, and there's one particular idea we want to do for ourselves, so here's a few of the features we intend to put in the next version.

  • Multiple Inventory Products Linked To One Item - The ability to link multiple products to a single saleable item. e.g., you have several different ebooks in your SmartDD database on a related topic.  You can currently only sell them individually by linking them to one item.  The new version allows you to link them all to one item, which when sold, shows them all individually on the customer download page.

  • Secondary etc. (multiple) admin email addresses to send notification to - mobile phone, etc…

  • "Free signup" - Send out a delivery email to a prospect in return for their name and email address.

  • Simple HTML editor for HTML emails.

Is there anything in particular you'd like added to the list that isn't mentioned above?

We often see good software with just those few little details missing that stop it from being truly great.  Maybe we're missing something from SmartDD that you think should be added?

Also on a similar vein, is there another item of software that you really want?  You know, that one program that you need above all else?  It might be software that already exists, or a completely new idea.

Or it may even be some knowledge you're missing about earning money online…

If you leave us a suggestion below as a comment, and we use it, we'll give you a free copy when it's done.

Duane Cosner :

I think your How-To videos and supporting documentation is great!

How about a how-to use SmartDD with Ebay Digital Download?

I also think it would great if ther was a test button that allowed us to experience the users experience. It would confirm that everything is set-up right and the emails are right with the "tokens" you called them "tags" functioning properly.

Great job guys!

Thalia :

I really like this application a lot. There is only one thing I personally need next, a reliable member script with affiliate capabilities (keyword-reliable) . I guess that's technically 2 things. It doesn't need to be super heavy with features, just the basics but did I say reliable? :) eBay has a category to sell memberships too, so it should integrate as well as other products. Anyway, that's my suggestion.

Thanks,
Thalia

craig :

I agree with The affiliate capabilities would be nice.
Also the possibility to have an autoresponder multipul included as most need a seperate cron service and as Smart DD takes one of those up you need another somewhere if you have your own multi responder on your server.

Also maybe an image view in admin of the products in the sytem just a small thumb nail one as it can get mind boglling if you have loads to go through to adjust.

What about a skin change them for the admin some times nice if you use alot for visual affect

Still a great program and works a treat
Craig :)

Adi :

In case that I have hundreds (or even thousand) of digital products, I just need to create the list of my products in excel spreadsheet (in certain format of course), then all i need to do is just 'upload' this excel spreadsheet to smartDD.

Then…my hundred products was added in smartDD automatically.

It would be a great time saver for everyone :)

Keep up the goodwork.

Cheers,
Adi

Jack :

I just got it set up … I can't wait until tomorrow to start populating all of the fields! So far - I love it. You are so close to having SmartDD work as an autoresponder …. Do you think it would be possible to turn this program into a turnkey sales and management package complete with an autoresponder?

Have you seen the $7 Scripts and how they set up their affiliate splits? The affiliates commission split is sent directly to his or her PayPal address and the other part of the split goes directly into your PayPal account. This eliminates the need for a ClickBank merchant account and all of those associated fees. Another HUGE benefit to this is that no one has to wait for their money. I am not certain how you would deal with refunds ……

Keep up the GREAT work!!

Jack

Frank Haywood :

Hey Jack,

At some point we'll be releasing a simple low cost autoresponder which we'll make sure will integrate with SmartDD. The reason we didn't put more than one follow-up email in place is because it could potentially be used to spam people.

We feel strongly that customers should always be put in the situation where they double opt-in, ie they get the chance to confirm they want to be on a mailing list. Although that's not a legal requirement anywhere (yet) as far as we know, we just think it's only polite to ask first.

(As I write this, there are 5,500 members of the SmartDD site, but only about 3,500 have opted in to the SmartDD mailing list.)

With just one follow-up email sent 24 hours after the purchase, we didn't think any customer would ever complain about that being unsolicited email.

We also have plans to release a script that does what the $7 script does only better. While the $7 script was a brilliant idea, there are a number of holes in the way it's put together, and we're going to address a lot of those issues with our version.

Amongst quite a few things, will be the ability to put together flexible one time offers, and chain them off each other, as well as free sign up.

That will be the turnkey sales and management package you're after.

It will cost more than $7 but don't worry though, it won't leave a huge whole in your pocket. ;-)

That script will be called Site Flow Manager and will be sold on a site called SiteFlowSecrets.com and will include a nice big ebook explaining all the ins and outs of the sales flow throughout your sites and how to use it to maximise your sales.

The book is pretty much written but needs cleaning up, and the script is in prototype at the moment. We want to release the next version of SmartDD before we finish that off.

And further down the road, we have our own CMS (Content Management System) which is on the shelf at the moment and about 80-95% complete depending on your perspective.

When we get round to that, we'll include everything else we've done all incorporated into it.

So it will be the turnkey sales and management package you've asked about plus a whole lot more…

As always, our licencing will be on the basis that once you've bought it, it's yours to use on any domain you personally own. We'll probably also offer a reseller licencing deal of some sort.

The name of that little beauty (and you heard it here first!) is CMS Anywhere. Yes we have the domain name already…

Cheers,

Frank.

Annie :

Hi Frank,

How about a Mac compatible version? Or is there already such a product? It sounds like a great tool and I'd love to actually use it, but I don't see a Mac version anywhere.

Thanks,
Annie

Frank Haywood :

Hi Annie,

SmartDD runs on a web server so it's not really a case of it being MAC or PC compatible. Well, other than the installer which runs under Windows of course.

Once it's installed, you can access and configure it from almost any web browser.

Cheers,

Frank.

John Reid :

Hi Frank.
I love your software but for my particular purpose would need to be changed slightly in one area.

Do you offer a service where SmartDD can be modified (customised) by Paul to suit customers special requirements?

Cheers

John

Hi John,

It depends on how big the mod would be, and we also have a proviso that we can incorporate it into SmartDD if it would be useful to everyone else too.

To give you some idea of the cost (IF Paul has the time to do it), we offered someone their mod requirement for $200.00 which was for a day's work.

Pretty cheap really, but they declined and spent a week hacking it together themselves…

Alternatively, you could make a suggestion for the next version. It's being worked on right now, target release end of August. (Yes, it's very late from our initial April-May.)

And, we also have another item of software partially complete which is a framework for mini-site owners specifically.

Although SmartDD can handle delivery for mini-sites, we felt that there were specific requirements which would be best met by another piece of software.

We have a very early prototype that we've run a few tests through, and the overall thinking behind it is coming together nicely.

My personal aim is to have that ready for launch by mid October.

Cheers,

Frank.

John Reid :

Thanks Frank.

I wanted to be able to trigger the download procedure by a means other than a message from Paypal.

Your proposed "Free" product delivery in the new updated version due in a few weekswill probably do this, in which case I'll wait and not disturb Paul.

Thanks again
John

Hi John,

We'll be adding 3 additional actions which will trigger delivery.

Free (with name and email address passed to e.g. Aweber), ClickBank, and manually in the admin panel (which is essentially the "free" one again).

If you can think of any other action that would be useful, please let me know.

Cheers,

Frank.

Dean Ambrose :

Hi Frank,

Great job on the Install / Setup docs…worked flawlessly!

I've begun setting up my products in SmartDD & it is delivering the goods as promised!

I'm going to be using Paypal's "subscription" format where the payments will be set up on an automatic monthly, recurring basis. The purchased files will be updated monthly, but retain the same filename, so SmartDD should be ok to process these payments and deliver the products.

The question I have is this…My initial subscriber will get 2 months of downloads (of the same filename product) for one month cost (paid up front). It's no problem getting the initial download to the customer, but what about the 2nd month (when there will be no payment)?

Would I be able to set up a "follow-up" email to automatically be sent 30 days after the initial payment with a download link? Or is there another way to accomplish this?

(You can view my site at http://www.theambertec.com if you want to see how I'm doing this.)

Thanks,

Dean Ambrose
